Jay Steven Cowen, M.D. | President and CEO

Dr. Cowen is an experienced intensivist with more than two decades of leadership in the field. Prior to starting CritiCare, he was founder and president of The Intensivist Group. Dr. Cowen has focused his career on intensive care and critical care outcomes and the implementation of intensivist programs in community hospitals throughout the U.S., and has implemented 35-40 intensivist programs during his career. He has extensive experience as a director and consultant of multiple care management organizations, and has won numerous awards for teaching and his work in critical care medicine. He also has extensive experience in telehealth, having started one of the first tele-ICU programs in the country.

In addition to leading CritiCare, Dr. Cowen is regularly invited to speak at conferences and professional organizations about intensivists and critical care management. He completed a surgical critical care fellowship at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, Australia, and a Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center that included additional study in Critical Care Economics and Quality Management at the Leonard Davis Institute for Health Care Economics in the Wharton School of Business. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Dr. Cowen serves on the board of trustees at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Illinois and is Medical Advisor to American Prairie Reserve in Bozeman, Montana. He lives with his wife and two children in Chicago, IL.

Frank Lucas | Chief Operating Officer

Frank Lucas has served in executive leadership roles for healthcare services and hospital-based physician practice management companies for more than 25 years. He has performed over 250 critical care consulting engagements focused on intensivist provider modeling including revenue projections and proposal development.

In his role at CritiCare, Frank oversees all aspects of business operations including implementations, medical billing, practice management, financial analysis, and productivity enhancement. He also coordinates consulting engagements and client relations.

Frank earned his MBA degree from the Ohio State University and his BBA degree in Accounting (cum laude) from Ohio University.

Justin DeWitte | Advisory Board Chairman

Justin DeWitte serves on Chairman of the Advisory Board of CritiCare. He has focused the last decade of his career on healthcare, owning and operating companies involved in home care, hospice care, diabetic supply, pharmacy, palliative care, and physician services. Justin was CEO at one of the five largest post-acute physician practices in the country and was the founder and president of a management consultant company serving CEOs and principals in healthcare and private equity. Justin holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois and graduated from the University of Michigan’s MBA program with high honors. He is married and the proud father of four children.
